In a lawsuit filed in U.S. federal court for the southern district of New York and obtained by USA TODAY on Monday, Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones Jr. alleges Combs "forcibly touched and attempted and/or threatened to touch (Jones') intimate areas and/or touched (Jones) with his own intimate body parts" while they worked on the album. According to Jones, he and Combs worked together between September 2022 and November 2023, a partnership that resulted in nine songs on "The Love Album" for which Jones is credited as a producer. Jones also alleges he was not paid for "13 months (and) thousands of hours of work." Combs, his son Justin, Universal Music Group, Motown Records and Love Records are among the other defendants listed in the lawsuit. Jones is seeking $30 million in compensation and a jury trial. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial is based on the reallife journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who became an IPS officer after cleaning toilets, working in the library and toiling hard to overcome every obstacle which came his way. Now in an interview with Unfiltered by Samdish, Vikrant opened up about his initial days in the industry. The actor also spoke about the time when he worked in daily soaps and then he decided to give up on a successful TV career to try his luck in cinema. Vikrant also added that he used to earn Rs 35 lakh a month when he made up his mind to quit TV. The actor said, I earned a lot in TV. I bought my first house at the age of 24. But all that regressive content on TV was happening simultaneously and I felt like coming out of the world and trying my luck in cinema. I realised that though I became secure financially, it didn't help me sleep well. I had this realisation when I fulfilled all my financial responsibilities towards my parents and others. He added, My parents were in shock when I told them I am going to restart over in films. I was making a lot of money. At the age of 24, I was earning Rs 35 lakh per month, especially for someone who comes from a middleclass background. I quit TV at the time when I had a Rs 35 lakh per month contract in my hand. I decided to do good work and find peace. Vikrant Massey also revealed how his(then girlfriend) wife Sheetal Thakur used to help him with money for auditions. Inside Sony’s ‘Madame Web’ Collapse: Forget About a New Franchise

Then last week, the critic reviews for Madame Web were posted, and they stung deepest of all Sonys SpiderMan spinoff received the lowest average Rotten Tomatoes score (13 percent) of any major superhero film in nearly a decade. On Wednesday night, you could actually watch advance purchase sales declining in real time as buyers were refunding their tickets, marvels a major theatrical chain insider. It really says something when youd rather have Shazam! 2 numbers. It marked one of the lowest starts in Hollywood history for a film based on a Marvel character. Domestic box office for the first six days in North America was just $26.2 million after opening midweek on Valentines Day. International tallied $25.7 million from 61 markets. Even the fanfriendly CinemaScore grade was poor (C+ extremely low for a superhero title). Like DC and the onceunstoppable Marvel, Sony is now finding itself in under the gun to reevaluate how it makes comic book movies. Sonys previous SpiderMan universe movie 2022s Morbius was a critical bust and muchmaligned by fanboys online, but at least it managed to earn $170 million worldwide. Theres no such hope for Madame Web. Plus, the features collapse doesnt just impact this film, but a new potential franchise led by star Dakota Johnson that Sony had hoped to spin out (spoiler alert her character is connected to Peter Parker, whose birth is documented in the movie). The film introduced a trio of supporting characters (played by Isabela Merced, Celeste OConnor and Sydney Sweeney now one of the top stars her age). It set up a future in which the three could have become a team of SpiderWomen under the guiding eye of Johnsons Cassie Webb. Now thats not going to happen. Were not going to see another Madame Web movie for another decadeplus, quipped one industry veteran. It failed. Sony tried to make a movie that was a different type of superhero movie. Madame Web joins a troubling trend for the superhero genre. Every liveaction comic book movie last year underperformed (aside from Marvel Studios s of the Galaxy Vol. 3), regardless of studio. Superhero fatigue has evolved from a term used by some corners of the fandom to something reluctantly accepted as industry fact. And its coming at a time when Marvel, DC and Sony are all attempting the difficult work of birthing new franchises. So Madame Web directed and cowritten by S.J. Clarkson and starring Johnson as a New York paramedic who develops psychic powers seemingly took a wise approach When there are capes and cowls on every metropolis corner, doesnt it make sense to avoid the usual tropes and try for a more groundedfeeling suspense thriller with lowkey charm? And moreover, make a superhero movie for women and young girls? Except it didnt work. I dont know if women are enough to carry the box office here, one veteran studio source outside of Sony says. Indeed, males make up 65 percent to 70 percent of the superhero audience in North America. In the case of Madame Web, the percentage of female viewers was still only 46 percent. We are in transition when it comes to superhero movies, notes the insider. I dont know how big that transition is or what the other side looks like. It may be fewer movies, but bigger brands. Sony is willing to take some risk but also wants home runs thats good. And if [Sonys upcoming SpiderMan Universe title] Kraven is a gigantic hit, the narrative could be completely different. So its too early to know the outcome. The current mood on the Sony lot is gloomy, an insider says. The studio has certainly had notable wins under movie chief Tom Rothmans tenure, including the Oscarnominated SpiderVerse series and the liveaction Venom (a third Venom, starring Tom Hardy, is due out Nov. 8). Rothman is known for keeping a close watch over budgets and it has been widely reported that Madame Web cost $80 million, but the actual number is in the low $100 million range, according to several sources. Still, thats far less than the $200 to $300 million routinely spent by Marvel or DC. Interestingly, some Madame Web reviewers are earnestly making the case that the film could eventually find a secondlife as a camp classic (the Los Angeles praised it as the purest form of camp and Slate raved, Its a travesty, a disaster and I enjoyed the hell out of it).

Stewarts return to Daily Show hosting duties Monday night opened with a 20minute monologue going after Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Stewart especially mocked the current president after his disastrous press conference last week where Biden struggled to assure Americans that he was still cognitively capable of performing his duties. Stewart seemed wholly aware his comments would lead to some leftside backlash, with correspondent Jordan Klepper asking Stewart onair afterwards, Did you save democracy yet with your 90s brand of snark and bothsiderism? And thats precisely the sort of blowback that happened, with everyone from progressives to Elon Musk to the White House weighing in. Podcast host Michael J. Elston tweeted, If youre a Democrat with high hopes about the return of Jon Stewart, save your excitement. The first half of his return was bothsidesing the age issue. I bailed when we got to the guest who believes Biden should not have run for a 2nd term. Jon Stewart is not your friend. Chris D. Jackson, an election commissioner in Tennessee, tweeted, Wow. So you basically say because Biden is old, he is basically as bad as Trump. Why th[e] F do we never learn in this country? Sorry, but I wont be watching you either. Former MS host Keith Olbermann tweeted, Well after nine years away, theres nothing else to say to the bothsidesist fraud Jon Stewart bashing Biden, except Please make it another nine years. We believe that it was important for the American people to hear directly from this president in a very forceful way about what we thought about the special counsel report, JeanPierre said (quote edited for clarity and brevity). And not only that, but he took your questions, he stood there and took questions from all of you. We believe thats important to do and lets not forget, the report said the case is closed. Theres nothing to prosecute. But also, the president is going to stand and defend himself. The way that report was characterized it was not not just me saying this, but legal experts on both sides saying it it was flatly wrong. It was gratuitous and it was inappropriate. And so the presidents going to defend himself. We believe he believe he did the right thing. During his monologue, Stewart had lamented about Biden and Trump, These two candidates, they are both similarly challenged. And it is not crazy to think that the oldest people in the history of the country to ever run for president might have some of these challenges Were not suggesting neither man is vibrant, productive or even capable. But theyre both stretching the limits of being able to handle the toughest job in the world. Whats crazy is thinking that were the ones, as voters, who must silence concerns and criticisms. It is the candidates job to assuage concerns, not the voters job not to mention [them] Look, Joe Biden isnt Donald Trump. He hasnt been indicted as many times, hasnt had as many fraudulent businesses or been convicted in a civil trial for sexual assault or been ordered to pay defamation charges or stiffed blue collar tradesmen.. The stakes of this election dont make Donald Trumps opponent less subject to scrutiny. It actually makes him more subject to scrutiny. If the barbarians are at the gate, you want Conan standing on the ramparts, not chocolate chip cookie guy.

Monster movie review: Hirokazu Kore-eda's tender and masterful plea for acceptance is one of the

He's a master of capturing the mundane, the specific everydayness of human experience. His new film Monster (Kaibutsu), which first had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, at first seems to follow the same road. Yet, as the Rashomonesque drama unravels, Monster becomes a compelling reminder of the power of perspective, woven within the repeating events of the same days, told from three angles. The structure and premise Monster begins with Minato Mugino (Soya Kurokawa), who has begun to act strangely around his single mother Saori (Sakura Ando). She is witness to his haircutting tendencies and tracks him down to an abandoned tunnel by the hills. A wellintentioned comment drives Mugino to jump out of the moving car. Saori suspects that he is being bullied at school, and registers a complaint to the principal Makiko Fushimi (an unforgettable Yko Tanaka), against a certain teacher there, named Mr. Hori (Eita Nagayama). Experience Delhis rich history through a series of heritage walks with HT! Participate Now Why has Mr Hori called him pig brain? The explanation then leads to the second act, which shifts the perspective through the point of view of Mr. Hori himself. Although he has shared that it was Minato who was a bully to another student in the class the sensitive Yori (Hinata Hiiragi), is there more to his story? Its a thornier angle, where he is wronged in an insidious system that is governed by adults. He is forced to give a formal apology, but it does not provide any explanation to the many loose ends that still stick out. Once the screenplay, a masterwork in recalibration of incidents and perspectives by Sakamoto Yuji (that won him the Best Screenplay at Cannes), directs its gaze towards the reality between Minato and Yori, Monster reveals what is really going on. The two kids have a soft spot for each other, although how they respond to that is contrasting. The third part is the film's most unforgettable segment, and although Monster takes its own sweet time to arrive there, stay with it. Assemble the bits and pieces of information scattered through the three segments. It all comes together to form a jewel of a film. Final thoughts Breathtakingly vivid in the scenes involving a fairytaleish, abandoned carriage that the kids share, far away from the gaze of adults, Minato and Yori build a precious bond. A particularly moving and profound scene appears when Minato and Makiko meet and share a moment by themselves in the school's music room. "Happiness is something anyone can have," she tells him. "If its not for everyone, thats not happiness." The emotional intelligence with which this particular insight fits into the web of Monster is a thing of beauty. Composer Ryuichi Sakamoto's rousing, intimate score marvelously plays out to withstand the many moods and feelings of this film. Monster invites the viewer's worst assumptions on its characters, and gently makes space for empathy and consideration along the way. It shows how truth can exist in different forms and layers, often guided by circumstance and impulse. The world that Monster creates, expands to allow those assumptions, and then lifts the shadow over the unforeseen reality. Ever so gentle and quiet in its treatment, Hirokazu Koreeda has delivered a soulful, humanist drama; and one of the very best films of the year. Entertainment! Entertainment!

Ultros review: a sweet and sour Metroidvania

Not only is it one of the most visually vibrant games of the year so far with its neon colour palette that's an instantKOtomyeyeballs, but the way it twists and rewires core tenets of the Metroidvania rulebook also make it one of the boldest and most daring examples of its genre. I'll say it now it doesn't always stick the landing. But if there's one thing Ultros does constantly throughout its 15odd hour runtime, it's that it's always, always interesting. And for that, it has my respect even if by the time the (first) end credits rolled, I was ready to never touch it ever again. To begin with, Ultros is a feast for the senses. As our caped, almost insectoidlike heroine awakens from her slumber in a field of mad, impossible plant life, we gradually learn that we're trapped in a timeloop on board what is clearly some kind of ship in the vastness of space, but also a place that's intermittently referred to as both a sarcophagus and cosmic womb. It's a premise that's almost as baffling to wrap your head round as its visual frenzy. Whatever this place is, it's abundant with multicoloured trees, vines and fungi, and the creatures feasting off its riches feel like they've been pulled straight out of some multidimensional fever dream. Yep, those are giant eyeball fruits you're looking at and they give you a really quite tasty health boost and help you unlock new skills very fast indeed. You'll want to chow down on lots of these. | Image credit Rock Paper Shotgun/Kepler Interactive Everything about your predicament feels constantly on the verge of being too overwhelming to continue, and I suspect there will be plenty of folks who feel that Ultros is ultimately a little high on its own supply. But despite its busy visuals and surreal setup, Ultros is a remarkably easy game to read and navigate thanks the stark black silhouettes outlining its eyepopping backdrops. Moving through Ultros is a breeze in that respect, regardless of whether you're fully tooled up with your unlockable Cortex abilities, and it grounds the game in a way that make its momenttomoment platforming feel solid and tangible even when its plot feels like it's about to float out the window in a haze of cosmic nonsense. At the heart of this timeloop is the eponymous demon Ultros, a raging threeeyed purple orb whose true nature and purpose is never fully explored or explained, but is only merely hinted at during the enigmatic encounters you have with the ship's handful of remaining residents. Some have become more deranged than others thanks to this neverending time prison, and they're helpful and violent in equal measure, acting as both bosses who stand in the way of your goal, and guiding hands who occasionally fill your pockets with useful seeds and tools. Let's first dissect its combat, which begins as a simple hack and slash affair, but gradually evolves into a cleaner, more precise school of swordplay techniques as you unlock new abilities. It's never so meticulous that it crosses over into Soulslike territory, but it does actively encourage you to vary your attack strikes and move combos in order to reap better spoils from your foes. These monster gibs don't just offer better healing bonuses when your health is low, though. They also feed into four coloured bars that unlock new moves. For example, mashing your basic attack over and over will only reward you with a 'bloody pulp' that has minimal nutritional benefit, but take down an enemy with three distinct strikes, say, and you might get a 'perfect' sample that gives you a much bigger boost. Different abilities require different amounts of these four coloured bars to be filled in (I hesitate to use the word stat bars, as your base stats remain the same throughout), so you'll need to literally feed your mind so you can grow as a warrior. This is one of Ultros' more complex enemies, but these more challenging beasts are few and far between. Most are much smaller and easier to kill. | Image credit Rock Paper Shotgun/Kepler Interactive To begin with, this tension between healing and personal growth gives Ultros a luminous lick of strategic thinking. Do I power up now, but leave myself with no recovery items? Or do I hold back at the expense of its very good dropkick, additional combo strikes and sneak attacks? It's a knotty dichotomy to contemplate, especially when each new timeloop puts you back at square one on the old ability chart. Alas, that edge becomes dulled over time. The more timeloops you go through, the lower each ability's requirements become, thus requiring fewer nutritious noshes to gain back, and enemies are often such pushovers that you'll be swimming in limbs and bloodied torsos in no time. Add to this collectible mycelium nodes that let you remember abilities between timeloops, and your incentive to engage with its combat outside boss battles rapidly diminishes. Even when she's fully tooled up, though, our heroine can still feel quite stilted and frustrating to control. Wall jumps are fussy to execute with any degree of skill or accuracy, and even her double jumps never feel like they reach as high as they should. Let's put it this way she's a far cry from Ori and Sargon, and feels more akin to Team Cherry's similarly mysterious Knight. But the chief offender in Ultros' fussy department is definitely your tethered extractor tool. Like your sword, this is an object you'll have to manually collect every time you begin a new timeloop, and one whose functions are restored with every new boss you take down. Thankfully, these do persist through each loop, but it's this not your Cortex abilities that makes it possible to reach the farthest corners of the ship. In fact, your Cortex abilities aren't important at all in the grand scheme of things. They simply give you more options and make things easier when it comes to fights. Ah, Feastro The Bowel (left), you were good fun as a boss fight. Most of the time, though, Ultros' weirder sights (eg that poor dissected lad on the right there) aren't explained or given any further context.
